The local French public board, Conseil scolaire public du Grand Nord de l’Ontario (CSPGNO), and the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) have reached a three-year collective agreement for the period ending September 2022.
"This agreement enables CSPGNO to continue offering high-quality service within its schools,” said CSPGNO chair Marc Aubin, in a press release.
“By working together with the janitorial staff, we can offer clean school environments that allow students to feel good, learn and develop to their fullest potential."
The local agreement was reached after the province and CUPE — which represents 55,000 education workers across Ontario — signed a central agreement last October, averting a strike.
Union representative Madeleine Fredette said CUPE Local 895's bargaining committee wishes to thank CSPGNO for their support, efforts and dedication in reaching the ratification of the agreement.
“We look forward to continuing the good working relationship that currently exists, always keeping the interests and needs of students, staff and members first,” she said.
This agreement was reached as four other unions representing teachers and educational workers are holding rotating strikes.
