Robert Poirier, who works at the Sudbury plant of Brake Parts Canada, dove off a dock and struck bottom in late July. He suffered a broken neck. He could not move or feel anything from the neck down, or breathe without a ventilator.

Poirier was air-lifted to London?s Health Sciences Centre, where he spent five weeks in the critical care unit. Following surgery, he was then able to move his head and shoulders.

He was air-lifted to Sudbury?s St. Joseph Health Centre Sept. 1, where he spent the next five weeks in the intensive care unit. He is now able to breathe unaided and, with daily therapy treatment, he has regained slight movement.
