Funding campaign to help with expansion and renos at hospice

$5.1 million will add more beds as well as living area

Maison McCulloch Hospice is taking another pivotal step in its evolution, and is on the threshold of becoming the central hub for the delivery of sustainable and integrated hospice palliative care in the Greater Sudbury region.

The three-year, $5.1 million STAND BY ME Campaign will fund the expansion project, as well as renovations to the existing building.

A comprehensive evaluation, initiated in June 2015, with local health care partners confirmed that the facility is too small to accommodate its present and
future hospice palliative care programs and services.

The STAND BY ME Campaign will directly benefit those living with, or affected by, serious illness and grief. It will also enable the Hospice to offer ongoing support and training to health care professionals, volunteers, and caregivers who provide this vital care at home and in the community.

The Hospice Expansion project will add:

  • 3 more adult residential hospice beds
  • 6 new short-stay respite beds
  • 1 new Pediatric-Transition-Education multi-use suite with a living area
  • 1 on-site community ambulatory pain & symptom management care clinic
  • An extension to the barrier-free Walk of Life boardwalk on the shores of Bethel Lake

The STAND BY ME Community Campaign goal is an estimated $3.35 million.

A total of $1.5 million has already been raised thanks to the generous contribution from the McCulloch Family and community donations.

“Our bit of heaven is crowded and at times is challenged to accommodate the needs of those who seek a refuge of care that’s not about death but celebrating life with dignity, respect, light and love,” said Gerry Lougheed Jr., STAND BY ME Campaign Chair

"I ask you to stand by our Hospice in defeating the fears of dying with your light of caring and sharing."
