Photos: Teens hand out positive notes to mark Random Act of Kindness Week

'Anyone can spread kindness,' says Gavel Club member

Is the winter blues catching up to you? How about turning that frown upside down with a random act of kindness?

That's exactly what members of the Greater Sudbury Gavel Club were out to do on Sunday.

“It is International Random Act of Kindness week, so we are trying to spread kindness throughout the community,” Catherine Ronchin, Gavel club co-ordinator, said.

With that motto in mind, youth aged 12-18 were hard at work spreading positivity to the community at Vrab’s Independent Grocer.

They handed out notes that had messages to lift spirits or asked them to pay it forward.

“Some people kind of hurry past, but when they find out we are just spreading kindness they become happy,” Lachlan Kempson, member of Gavel Club, said.

While this was not a fundraiser, many receivers insisted they donate money to the children.

“If people insist on giving us donations we just ask them to pay it forward for someone else,” Kempson said.

“I think anyone can spread kindness,” Diksha Patel, Gavel Club member, said. No matter how small it can make someone's day and that's what we are here to do.”

How will you spread kindness this week? Tell us in the comments below.
