Good morning, Sudbury! Here are six stories to kick off your weekend. 

Anderson Farm tree lighting

The Christmas tree-lighting celebration at the Anderson Farm Museum in Lively is this evening. The tree-lighting ceremony takes place at 6 p.m., followed by Christmas carols and songs by musical groups from Walden-area schools. There'll be a winter clothing and non-perishable food collection on site. There's no public parking at the farm, but there will be a free shuttle bus from 5-8 p.m. from the Walden Arena parking lots to the centre court of the museum.

Still a chance to see Brent Butt

If you're kicking yourself for not getting tickets for comedian Brent Butt's Dec. 10 show at The Grand, fear not — LOL Sudbury has opening standing-room-only seats for sale today. "Due to popular demand, we are opening up standing-room-only tickets," LOL Sudbury said in a news release today. "These standing-room only tickets are $20 cash and will only be available at the door prior to the 8 p.m. show (doors open at 7pm)."

Help the GSPS help the food bank

The annual Cops for Christmas Food Bank Drive event takes place at Vrab’s Independent Grocer at the Four Corners this Saturday, Dec. 10. OPP and GSPS members will be collecting non-perishable food items and monetary donations for the Sudbury Food Bank while bagging groceries for customers between the hours 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.

It’s a merry time for music

The Nickel City Wind Ensemble and the Northern Brass Choir team up for a holiday concert starting at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 11. A Big Nickel Christmas features holiday selections such as Sleigh Ride, A Christmas Festival, The Nutcracker, among other great pieces. The event, which takes place in Room 2226 at Cambrian College, supports the Infant Food Bank. Tickets cost $10 for general admission and is free for children 12 and under.

Youth Orchestra celebrates the season

The Sudbury Youth Orchestra presents its annual holiday performance Dec. 10. This year the concert features Vivaldi’s timeless masterpiece, "Gloria." The performance takes place at St. Andrew’s Place at 7 p.m. Dec. 10. General admission tickets are $15, $12 for seniors and students. Children 10 and under are free. Tickets are available at the Cambrian College Campus Shop, Vrab's Independant Grocers and at the door.

Sudbury Wolves in action tonight

Tonight, the Sudbury Wolves welcome the Windsor Spitfires for a tilt at Sudbury Arena. It’s the Pack’s annual Teddy Bear Toss in support of the TD Toy Bank. Fans are invited to toss a stuffed toy on the ice when the Wolves score their first goal of the game. It’s the Spitfires only appearance of the season in Sudbury. Tickets are on sale at the Sudbury Arena Box Office or online at greatersudbury.ca/tickets. Avoid the lines and come down early to get your seats today.
