Nickel Belt MPP and New Democrat health critic France Gelinas is asking for a moratorium on job cuts at hospitals across Ontario.
"After mounting job losses and service cuts to rural hospitals, the Minister of Health is now establishing a northern and rural health care advisory panel to look into the matter."
Ontarians living in rural and northern areas face difficulties when services are cut because of added travel distance, which in turn makes regional hospitals busier, she said.
Gélinas said that the Ministry is "buying time" by creating the advisory panel, and that the proposed moratorium on cuts would protect northern and rural patients' care.
