Gélinas retains seat in Nickel Belt

Liberal candidate James Tregonning was a distant second with 6,678 votes, or 22 per cent, while Progressive Conservative candidate Marck Blay received 3,562 votes, or 11.7 per cent of the total.

Green Party candidate Heather Dahlstrom received 1,065 votes, or 3.5 per cent of the vote.

“For now, it feels good and I'm going to enjoy it,” Gélinas said after her win, before it was announced that Kathleen Wynne's Liberals would be able to form a majority government.

“I have been effective in bringing the views of the people of Nickel Belt to Queen's Park,” Gélinas aded. “I will continue to work as hard as I can to bring those views (forward).”

She said her top three priorities when she returns to Queen's Park will be to push for the reduction of hydro prices, reduce the price of gas, and fight for mining safety.

Gélinas said health care issues, especially access to home care and more support for people with autism spectrum disorder, will also be top priorities.
