After monitoring local developments and consulting with Public Health Sudbury & Districts, the City of Greater Sudbury has re-opened the Gerry McCrory Countryside Sports Complex as of Aug. 11 , with some sports fields available for booking on Friday.

“We have been working closely with Public Health Sudbury & Districts to keep an eye on the numbers, and it is encouraging to see them once again moving in the right direction,” said Greater Sudbury Mayor Brian Bigger.

“But that doesn’t mean we can let our guard down. COVID-19 has not gone away, and it is critically important that we all continue to do our part by maintaining physical distance wherever possible, practicing good hand hygiene and wearing a non-medical mask or face covering. We have worked so hard to get to this point and no one wants to see facilities and businesses close up again. Thank you to each and every one of you for continued diligence in helping curb the spread of this virus in our community.”

As part of Stage 3 of the province’s COVID-19 restart plans, the arena was originally scheduled to reopen on Aug. 3.

One ice pad is now open, with the second opening on Aug. 17. The facility will be open Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to midnight. For the time being, it will remain closed on weekends. To request ice time, email [email protected].
