Good morning Sudbury

With inches of the fluffy white stuff on the ground this morning, Greater Sudbury Police and the city's public works department are asking motorists to drive according to the conditions today as crews scramble to deal with the snowfall.

With inches of the fluffy white stuff on the ground this morning, Greater Sudbury Police and the city's public works department are asking motorists to drive according to the conditions today as crews scramble to deal with the snowfall.

Police are reminding drivers to allow extra time getting to their destinations and to leave enough distance to come to a complete, controlled stop on the icy roads as they do not have the resources to attend every traffic incident.

Also, the Extreme Cold Weather Alert program is ready to go again this year, providing extra services to those in need of warmth and shelter on cold days.

A collaboration between the city and several community partners, the Extreme Cold Weather Alert program is a short-term response to increase shelter capacity and outreach services.

During extreme cold conditions, the Elizabeth Fry Transitional Home, Foyer Notre Dame, Genevra House, Inner Sight Educational Homes and the Salvation Army Centre will increase their shelter capacity and exercise leniency in curfews.

L'Association des Jeunes de la Rue, a community outreach program, will provide overnight outreach services for people on the street and to transport individuals wishing to access shelters. Outreach workers will also be equipped with warm outerwear, blankets and coffee for those choosing not to access shelters.
