Development charge rates increase as of July 1:

The City of Greater Sudbury’s development charge rates will increase July 1 and remain in effect until June 30, 2019. The rates include the final 2017 phased-in rate increase and are calculated in accordance with the Development Charges Act, City of Greater Sudbury By-Law 2014-151 and the inflationary adjustment of 3.5 per cent based on the Non-Residential Building Construction Price Index. Chamber of Commerce Nickel Belt Riding Debate:

This event is May 29 at 7 p.m. at Cousin Vinny’s. Sudbury.com will be on hand to bring you coverage of the second and final local debate before the June 7 provincial election. The events are sponsored by the Sudbury Real Estate Board and hosted by the Greater Sudbury Chamber of Commerce.

Hundreds at Kivi raise thousands to fight cancer:

Hundreds of local families gathered at Kivi Park on Sunday morning to participate in the walk/run/bike for Cancer event. The Walk/Run/Bike for Cancer is the third of six MOVE - The Kivi Park, Fitness Series events, held to support the Northern Cancer Foundation. Check out some of the best moments of the walk here 

Calling all green thumbs: Durham Street comes alive for annual Gardening Festival

Durham Street came alive on Saturday as Mother Nature lovers filled the streets. Organized by Sudbury's Horticulture Society, the Sudbury Gardening Festival is a chance for the community to purchase perennials, annuals, vegetable starts, trees and flowers -- just about everything a gardener needs to get started or add to gardening endeavours — from local vendors. Defeating depression one step at a time

Despite the spring bloom, the skies were more blue. The sun hid behind the thick cover of the clouds. Scattered droplets could be felt, as Sudburians gathered to defeat depression at the 5th Annual Walk/Run. Nearly 1 in 5 Canadians suffer from mental health illnesses. Unlike other illnesses, depression often goes untreated primarily due to the stigma surrounding the illness, for this, it has also been termed as an invisible disease. Cops crack down on driving safety:

The GSPS Traffic Management Unit and Patrol Operations officers of the took part in a traffic enforcement initiative as part of Canada Road Safety Week from May 17-23. Find out some of the initiates undertaken by the police to maintain road safety here
