Miners Mayhem! Hundreds brave new obstacles, raise funds at 7th annual event:

Approximately 400 people had a very messy start to their weekend as they rolled in to participate in the seventh annual Miners Mayhem mud run. The parking lot was bustling with a sea of colourful athletic gear and tutus. Neighbours passed friendly challenges, while some friends simply cheered the participants. Community joins in to raise the barn for therapy program hobbled by fire:

Brenda Verdiel had a tough last year. Verdiel is the owner of Whinnying in Life, a not-for-profit registered charity that runs therapeutic programs for special needs children. She saw the fruits of her year's hard work turn to ashes in a barn and a shed fire. Despite the extensive damage to her property, the therapeutic programs for special needs children ran as scheduled. Verdiel, has since been working hard to get the barn back to its former glory and joining in her cause are four area Lions Clubs. Read more on this heartwarming story here

CMHA urges Sudbury to 'Ride Don’t Hide':

Many Sudbury families gathered outside Science North braving the chilly winds to support Larabie and many others living with mental illness, by participating in Ride Don’t Hide Event organized by the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) Sudbury/Manitoulin. The national event hopes to raise awareness about mental illness by encouraging community members to come out and engage in physical activities. Find out more on the event here

These volunteers volunteered to fire up their grills for Maison McCulloch Hospice:


John Monaghan and his crew of 19 volunteers have been running a charity barbecue for last five years. The funds raised from the barbecue help maintain and improve their neighbourhood cemetery in Garson.This year the group of volunteers also added a celebration of life to help remember a friend whose life was claimed in an accident in Garson on June 11. Leading the way: Young volunteers honoured with GenNext awards:


United Way Centraide North East Ontario honoured nine outstanding volunteers at their GenNext Volunteer Awards this spring. The GenNext program recognizes the volunteer achievements of young people across the Northeast region. Read more on this story here
