Grand opening celebrations take place Sept. 30 and Oct. 1 at the new Sunrise Records store in the New Sudbury Centre.
The store actually opened its doors in the former HMV location back in May. The Ontario-based music retail chain announced in March that it would move into 70 retail spaces being vacated by HMV Canada, which went into receivership.
Celebrations will include snacks, giveaways (from limited-edition merch to signed vinyl, and more) and special discounts for every customer.
In conjunction with the official grand opening, Sunrise Records has announced its first Local Artist Contest. This contest gives the opportunity for emerging artists to have their music distributed across the country in a two-tiered contest.
Hopeful bands/artists will enter through an online form and then enter a voting period. From the top 10 most-voted artists, a panel of Sunrise judges will determine a winner for a Grand Prize and a Runner-up Prize.
The grand prize includes the winning band/artist’s music pressed on 500 LPs and 500 CDs with nationwide distribution, a custom plaque, promotion via Sunrise channels, and more. The Runner-up Prize includes the winning band/artist’s music on 500 CDs with regional distribution, plus social media support.
