The Ontario Trillium Foundation has announced communities across Algoma, Cochrane, Manitoulin and Sudbury area will benefit from grants totalling just under $1 million.
Many of these grants will have a direct impact on the children and youth in these communities. Since 1999, the foundation has invested nearly $58 million in children, youth and families in communities across Ontario.
In Sudbury, the Human League Association received $90,000 to enable chldren from lower income families to participate in recreational activities.
Across Sudbury area, other grants handed out include:
+ $94,000 to the Canadian Hearing Society's Sudbury regional office to provide hearing care counselling service for seniors to reduce their isolation and improve their ability to live independently.
+ N'Swakamok Native Friendship Centre will receive $70,000 over two years to deliver a culturally appropriate literacy program for the urban native community in Sudbury.
+ Onaping Falls Golden Age Club will receive $60,000 to install an elevator and renovate a washroom to make the centre fully accessible.
