Claude Gravelle has been acclaimed as the federal NDP candidate in Nickel Belt. There were other people interested in the nomination, said Gravelle, but nobody else put their names forward because they wanted to support him.

Gravelle also ran in Nickel Belt in the 2004 and 2006 federal elections, finishing in second place.

He figures he has a good chance of winning this time because longtime Liberal Nickel Belt MP Ray Bonin will not run in the next election.

A federal election will likely be called “soon,” he predicts. He believes the NDP will do well in the next election.

“I think our leader, Jack Layton, is doing a great job in Ottawa doing more for working families. It's time for families to get ahead in this country. We have to close the prosperity gap.”

Gravelle can be reached at 855-9211..
