The City of Greater Sudbury is receiving $442,543 from the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corp. in their second-quarter gaming revenue payments.

These payments totalled $31.3 million to 27 municipalities that host gaming facilities, and the City of Greater Sudbury has received $45 million since November 1999.

“Our government is pleased that land-based casinos have reopened safely and are contributing to our provincial economy again,” Finance Minister Peter Bethlenfalvy said in a release.

“Host communities are once again benefiting from local employment and the financial proceeds that support vital services through Municipality Contribution Agreements.”

The OLG makes payments to host communities under Municipal Contribution Agreements, which use a prescribed formula consistently applied across all sites based on a graduated scale of gaming revenue at the hosted site or sites.

With gaming sites closed for several months due to the COVID-19 pandemic, they were allowed to resume operations on July 16 along with public health and workplace safety measures. All gaming sites in Ontario had resumed operations by Aug. 16.

OLG is a crown agency that develops gaming entertainment for the Province of Ontario and has contributed $55 billion to Ontarians since 1975, including contributions to health care, the treatment and prevention of problem gambling and support for amateur athletes.
