A snow squall warning is in effect for Greater Sudbury and vicinity.

“Under the snow squall bands, visibilities will be significantly reduced due to the heavy snow combined with blowing snow, and snow will quickly accumulate,” said the warning, issued by Environment Canada at 6:15 a.m. this morning.

“Snow squalls have developed off of Georgian Bay this morning. Snowfall amounts of 10 to 15 cm are possible today. Currently the heaviest snowfall is affecting areas inland from Georgian Bay to Estaire and Noelville.

“Snow squalls are expected to end later this afternoon. Snow squalls cause weather conditions to vary considerably; changes from clear skies to heavy snow within just a few kilometres are common. Prepare for quickly changing and deteriorating travel conditions. Be prepared to adjust your driving with changing road conditions.

“Snow squall warnings are issued when bands of snow form that produce intense accumulating snow or near zero visibilities.”
