The annual Gutsy Walk to stop Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis will take place at Bell Park in Sudbury on June 5.

Around 20,000 people are expected to participate in Gutsy Walks across Canada on that date.

Crohn’s and Colitis Canada expects to raise more than $3.5 million to support research, patient programs, advocacy and awareness to improve the lives of children and adults living with these devastating diseases.

Colitis is characterized by an inflammation of the colon, and along with the more severe Crohn's disease, affects around one in 150 Canadians.

In addition to the colon, Crohn's disease can affect any part of the gastrointestinal tract, from the anus to the mouth.

Symptoms include abdominal pain, diarrhea, fever, and weight loss.

Registration for the walk starts at 10 a.m. and the walk is scheduled to begin at 11:30 a.m.
