Trick-or-treaters and parents will be happy to know that the forecast for Oct. 31 is slightly above the average for this time of year.

The Weather Network released their Halloween forecast today, and Greater Sudbury looks to be in for a pretty manageable evening.

"Monday (Oct. 31) during the day should be pretty nice, but there's some shower systems that may move through the area in the evening," said meteorologist Brad Rousseau.

"It shouldn't be a heavy downpour, just some spotty showers off and on so it's a good idea to bring a parka or a rain coat just to be safe."

The seasonal average for Halloween is close to 4 degrees Celsius, but this year's temperature is expected to be as high as 6.

"It's slightly above the norm for this time of year," said Rousseau. "There will be a southeasterly breeze as well."

The coldest Halloween on record for Sudbury was in 1984 when the mercury plunged down to -6.7 degrees Celsius.

This year won't be nearly that cold, but it won't be anywhere close to the record high that was set in both 1960 and 1971 when Oct. 31 felt more like Aug. 31 with temperatures reaching a balmy 15.6 degrees Celsius.

As for precipitation, Rousseau says it's not all that common to see snow on Halloween in Sudbury, though it's always a possibility.

"In 1965 there was about 5 cm of snow that fell on Halloween in Sudbury," said Rousseau. "That's not common, but living in Canada it's not out of the question to have snow on Halloween. Just make sure you dress warm and keep dry."
