Andrea Horwath issued a statement criticizing Ford's plan to cut funding for a supervised safe injection site pilot project.

The decision by Ontario's PC government to halt the opening of planned overdose prevention sites has raised many eyebrows, including that of NDP Leader Andrea Horwath.

Horwath criticized the move, noting that advice from experts, community members and volunteers stands in stark contrast to the Ford Government's decision.

She characterized halting the overdose prevention sites pilot project as a move that risks the lives of Ontarians struggling with addiction.

In the statement by the NDP, Dr. David Juurlink, head of clinical pharmacology and toxicology at the University of Toronto, said supervised safe injection sites actually save the health system money.
