Funeral services will be held today for a local man killed in a snowmobiling accident over the weekend in Kapuskasing. Pierre Monette, 42, was killed when his snowmobile collided with a pickup truck Saturday east of Kapuskasing.

Pierre Monette, 42, was killed when his snowmobile collided with a pickup truck Saturday east of Kapuskasing.

Monette lived with his family in Hanmer and worked as the branch manager with Kinecore Inc. Monette was travelling alone on a groomed trail when he attempted to cross a road. He was struck by the truck while crossing the road.

He is survived by his wife, Christine and three children?Philippe, Janique and Celine. He is also survived by his mother and five brothers and sisters. Monette loved the outdoors and was an avid angler, hunter and camper. Monette?s funeral begins at 11 am at St. Jacques Church in Hanmer. Cremation will follow at Parklawn Crematorium. Donations to the Monette Children?s Education Fund would be appreciated.
