Happy 100th birthday, Palmira Stopciati!

Lively resident says eating well and working hard is the secret to longevity

Lively resident Palmira Stopciati turned 100 years old on Sept. 22.

Stopciati and her husband John immigrated to Canada from Italy in 1952 and moved to Creighton Mine, where John worked at Inco for 35 years.

Together they had four children: John, Frances, Tony and Paul. Stopciati has nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

She worked hard running her home and a boarding house for Inco workers before the family moved to Lively after the demolition of Creighton Mine.

John passed away on May 8, 1994, at the age of 72, and Palmira lived alone in the family home until a year ago, when she moved to Chartwell Meadowbrook Retirement Community.

Her son Paul said his mother continues to live life to the fullest and her motto to longevity in life is eating well and working hard.
