Two people are safe after they were awakened by their fire alarm early this morning at a home on Hawthorne Street, said Greater Sudbury Fire Services.
A fire started in the basement just before 3:20 a.m. on April 7, and the cause seems to be electrical related, said a press release. The damage is estimated at $300,000 with severe smoke and fire damage.
Two of the home's occupants were evacuated and are now displaced.
A total of 17 firefighters responded to the call.
In its fire safety message, Greater Sudbury Fire Services said avoid overloading a circuit with “octopus outlets.” If additional outlets are needed, have them installed by a licensed electrician. Check cords for damage, such as fraying or nicks. Extension cords should only be used as a temporary connection.
