Nickel Belt MP Marc Serré visited the Georgian Bay village of Killarney recently to announce federal funding that will help the community improve its sewage system.

A new project in Killarney has been approved under the Government of Canada’s Clean Water and Waste Water Fund.

The federal government is providing up to 50 per cent of funding for these projects— $61,904. The provincial government is also providing $30,952 and the Municipality of Killarney will provide the balance of funding.

Additionally, Serré announced a total investment of $30,707 through the federal Gas Tax Fund for the Municipality of Killarney.

Thanks to these investments, residents of Killarney will benefit from a survey and inspection of the sewage collection system to develop a work plan for required upgrades and repairs.

The funding also helps “ensure access to good middle class jobs, increased mobility, greater economic opportunities, sustainable communities and a high quality of life,” the press release said.

“Today’s investments in Killarney will have a huge impact on the quality of life, improving key municipal services and boosting regional development for years to come,” Serré said.

"They are now essential parts of our communities. Our communities know what their needs and challenges are. They know what this place they call home deserves. And this funding will allow us to do whatever it takes to make it even greater.”
