Health Sciences North will hold its annual general meeting tonight at 5 p.m. inside the Rock Garden Cafe at the hospital.

There has been a flurry of activity at the upper levels of the Sudbury hospital since Dominic Giroux took over as CEO in late 2017.

In January, the CEO announced that 30 per cent of senior managers were being cut and in efforts to save money and limit redundancies at the management level.

Health Sciences North is also in the midst of drafting its strategic plan that will lead the hospital into the next five years. Additionally, the hospital board is working on a new master plan that will be looking to reduce the number of sites and optimizing patient flow.

Both plans will be released in 2019, with the strategic plan expected to be finalized in January and the master plan in April.

The Health Sciences North board of directors has approved a $505.8-million budget for the 2018-2019 fiscal year, but it will not be implemented until a third-party independently reviews and approves the hospital's plans.

No mention of the review's status has been made of late, though a package that was distributed at the May 8 HSN board meeting indicated this year's hospital budget will include a one-per-cent deficit.

Validation of the approved budget is expected to be completed by June 30.
