Public Health Sudbury and Districts (PHSD) reported Monday that one new COVID-19 related death had occurred since the last daily summary report, which was Friday.

PHSD said it could not confirm the precise cause of death at this time, but said the death occurred in the Greater Sudbury district. This brings the total number of local COVID-related deaths to 197 since the pandemic was declared in March of 2020.

The daily summary also revealed there were 21 new cases of COVID reported since Friday. The total number of cases locally reported has reached 21,620 in the past two years and 10 months. This also means that 21,487 of those cases have been resolved in that same time period.

There continue to be several COVID-19 outbreaks in the Sudbury health jurisdiction, in long-term care homes, retirement homes and other congregate settings.

PHSD reported 12 recent outbreaks on Monday and said only seven of those outbreaks are still active.

Also Monday, Health Sciences North reported there were 28 confirmed cases of COVID being treated, with three patients assigned to the Intensive Care Unit.

The hospital also reported only one COVID-19 outbreak, on Level 7 of the North tower, RLHC (declared Jan. 3, 2023).

The hospital also reminds the public that on units where there is an active COVID outbreak, there are no Designated Care Partners/Visitors allowed. An exception may be considered for compassionate reasons or end-of-life.

Also, as of Jan. 9, 2023 the COVID Risk Index for Sudbury was still in the Moderate category, and Sporadic for the Influenza category.
