If you should happen to see an Eat Smart! Award
hanging on the wall of your favourite restaurant, you are making a
healthy choice.
The Sudbury and District Health Unit, in
co-operation with the Heart Health program, Canadian Cancer Society
and the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario, hosted an awards
ceremony last week to honour 14 restaurants for their commitment to
healthy dining.
Dining establishments in Greater Sudbury to
receive the Eat Smart! Award included Anke?s and
Tony?s Seafood, Arby?s, Lively Golf and Country
Club, Mardi Gras, Parthenon, Ristorante Verdicchio?s,
Sixth Avenue Golf and Country Club, Tower Café and
Williams Coffee Pub.
Other establishments honoured included the
Ivanhoe River Inn, Busy Bee Country Store and Restaurant,
Garden?s Gate Restaurant, Anchor Inn and The Schooner
Restaurant.
In order to qualify as an EatSmart! Restaurant,
establishments must meet the required food safety, nutrition and
non-smoking standards of the program.
Establishments must do so by providing 50 per

or healthy substitutes and employing one full time kitchen staff
with safe food handling certification.
