Thanks to the extended heat wave we've been enjoying (well some of us anyway), lifeguard supervision at Bell Park Main Beach is extended until Sunday, Aug. 26, the city said this afternoon.

Lifeguards will remain on duty between 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. each day.

Lifeguard supervision at all other municipal beaches will end on Sunday, Aug. 19, at 7 p.m. Lifeguards are generally post-secondary students who are returning to school.

Use of the following municipal beaches after August 19 is at your own risk. Reaching poles and ring buoys will remain attached to all lifeguard chairs.

  •  Capreol Public Beach
  •  Kalmo Beach in Valley East
  •  Moonlight Beach
  •  Nepahwin Park Beach
  •  Meatbird Park in Lively and
  •  Whitewater Lake Park in Azilda
  • The City of Greater Sudbury thanks residents for another safe summer at our local beaches.

While there is a possible blue-green algal bloom at Amphitheatre Beach on Ramsey Lake, the warning does not extend to Main Beach.
