Heckuva week for local lotto players: Two major jackpots

Craig Brady of Sudbury won $859K while Kimberly Fex of Hanmer won $100K

It was a good week to be a lottery winner in Sudbury — well, it was a good week for two local lotto players to be exact.

The Nickel City saw two residents take home major lottery prizes this week.

Announced today but won back on Feb. 13, Craig Brady of Sudbury was at a Shell station on Bowes Street in Parry Sound getting gas when he decided to play the Lightning Lotto game.

“The lottery terminal shut down and I was so excited,” he told OLGC Prize Centre staff. “I thought I won $5,000, but as I was talking to the store clerk, I realized I won the jackpot."

That jackpot was $859,653.

The 41-year-old father said he plans to invest some of the windfall for his children’s future and do some fun things with his family.

"I also want to have some fun with my family,” he said. “I'm planning a few fun adventures with my wife – concerts, shows, and a nice relaxing vacation."

Brady wasn’t the only big winner this week though. On March 15, OLG announced that Kimberly Fex of Hanmer had won $100,000 when she matched the last six of seven Encore numbers in exact order for the Feb. 3 Lotto Max draw and won $100,000.

“I was having my breakfast and checking my tickets when I knew I won something, but wasn’t sure how much,” she told OLG Prize Centre staff in Toronto. “When I went to the store and had it validated, I was so excited and happy when they said it was $100,000 – I felt so much adrenalin.”

The 54-year-old mother said she may buy a new vehicle and invest her winnings.

The winning ticket was purchased at Hanmer Kwik Way on Cote Boulevard in Hanmer.
