The annual Santa Claus Parade will be held in the downtown core on Saturday, Nov. 17 beginning at 5:30 p.m.

This year’s Santa Claus Parade route has been changed and shortened. Please see the map here

The Greater Sudbury Police Service Traffic Management Unit will be closing and or controlling several lanes of traffic and roadways to ensure the safe movement of parade participants and spectators. Assisting with traffic control will be members of Uniform Patrol, the Auxiliary Unit, and Citizens on Patrol, as well as, the OPP and the Canadian National Railway Police.

"GSPS understands that area residents and motorists will be slightly inconvenienced on the afternoon of the parade, however, the police service believes these measures are necessary to successfully ensure the safety of all those involved in and watching the Santa Claus Parade," said a news release from Greater Sudbury Police.

Motorists should be aware of the following lane and road closures:

  • Southbound lanes on Notre Dame Avenue will be closed between Kathleen Street and Ste. Anne Road at 1 p.m.
  • Notre Dame Avenue northbound between Elm Street and Leslie Street will be closed starting at 4:45 p.m. and will remained closed until all pedestrian traffic has cleared the parade area.
  • Motorists can detour via Kathleen Street toward Frood Road or Bond Street to Murray Street and Leslie Street toward Mountain Street.
  • The downtown core will be closed to vehicle traffic between 4:45 p.m. and 8 p.m.
  • The neighbourhood area contained by Kathleen Street, Davidson Street, College Street and MacKenzie Street will be open to local traffic only.

Parking at all municipal parking lots is free on the date of the parade.

Additionally, parade goers are asked to be mindful of where they park and where they choose to watch the parade. Please do not cross through the moving parade.

It is recommended that all attendees park outside the parade route perimeter and we ask that you do not walk across and in between moving vehicles and floats. This poses significant danger to all those involved.

Parking will not be permitted along the parade route – St. Anne’s Road, Elgin Street north of Cedar Street, Durham Street and Elm Street.

Vehicles will be ticketed and or towed at the owner’s expense.

The Murray Street area will be used by Paramedic Services, Fire Services and Sudbury Transit as an alternate route and parking enforcement will take place to ensure safe passage as required.
