The union representing English public high school teachers in Ontario is encouraging its members in the area to vote for local NDP candidates.
Harvey Bischof, president of the Ontario Secondary School Teachers’ Federation (OSSTF/FEESO) and James Clyke, president of OSSTF/FEESO District 3, are urging OSSTF/FEESO members in the ridings of Algoma-Manitoulin, Nickel Belt and Sudbury to support their local NDP candidates in the June 7 provincial election, a press release said.
Speaking Thursday at the OSSTF/FEESO District 3 office in Lively, Bischof and Clyke threw their support behind Michael Mantha, NDP candidate for Algoma-Manitoulin, France Gélinas, NDP candidate for Nickel Belt, and Jamie West, who is running for the NDP in the riding of Sudbury.
“OSSTF/FEESO members are excited to see the significant alignment between our vision for publicly funded education in Ontario, as found in our education platform, and the priorities identified in the NDP election platform,” said Bischof.
“Michael Mantha, France Gélinas, and Jamie West are promoting the kind of responsible, supportive approach to public services that my members can get behind. This stands in stark contrast to the threat that a Doug Ford government would pose to the work my members do on behalf of students from JK to university.”
“I’m proud to stand here today and urge OSSTF/FEESO members in to support Michael Mantha, France Gélinas and Jamie West in their respective ridings on June 7,” said Bischof.
OSSTF/FEESO District 3 president James Clyke said his executive and political action committee also endorsed the three NDP candidates.
“As incumbent MPPs, Michael Mantha and France Gélinas have been tireless advocates for their constituents, and we believe Jamie West is ready to do the same in the riding of Sudbury,” said Clyke.
“We need MPPs who are vocal supporters of a strong public education system that all Ontarians can rely on, and I urge our members to support Michael, France and Jamie on election day.”
