Linda Vander Schaaf got a Valentine's Day surprise this morning. Submitted photo.

Here's a story that proves you don't have to be a big spender when it comes to Valentine's Day.

Linda Vander Schaaf is used to romance, she calls her husband Mike Nolan "very romantic." They've been married almost 35 years now.

But she wasn't expecting such a public show of affection when she left for work at 7:15 this morning. "He did it while I was taking a shower."

The Laurentian Ave. resident admitted that, with the high snowbank in front of their house Mike had "quite a billboard just ready for something to be put on it."

"It was touching to drive out and see that this morning, " she told BayToday. "It's corny, but it's the sweetest thing he's ever done."

One of Linda's friends jokingly suggested her husband was doing a little advertising and she should be careful.

Now she's feeling the pressure to reciprocate.

"I'm feeling a little guilty," she admitted.

"I have a business meeting tonight but I'm second guessing that. Maybe I shouldn't be going out with the group but planning something special for him," she said. "We should go out to Average Joe's and do the deep fried ice cream for two or something.

"I follow BayToday all the time and I know he does too, so I wanted to share it."
