While the winter travel advisory has been lifted for the Greater Sudbury area, it was until 1:20 p.m. today that the Manitoulin Island Ontario Provincial Police re-opened Highway 6.

The highway had been closed at Little Current due to the weather conditions, including icy roads, poor visibility and whiteout conditions.

Those driving challenges plagued roadways across the region this morning, though the worst of it seems to have subsided.

The OPP closed all of Highway 6 southbound on the island at around 11:30 a.m. due to poor weather.
