C.R. Judd Public School in Capreol went into a “hold and secure” at the end of the school day yesterday afternoon after a gunshot was heard in the area.
Rainbow District School Board spokesperson Nicole Charette said in an email the school went into a hold and secure as of 2:45 p.m. Nov. 10.
That means the school's doors are locked, but classroom activities continue as normal, unlike in a lockdown situation.
“Two staff members heard a gunshot in the back of the school,” Charette said in the email statement.
“They saw two hunting dogs but could not see the hunter. As a precautionary measure, students were held safely in the school and police were called to investigate.
“The hold and secure was lifted at 3:25 p.m. when police determined that it was safe to do so. The safety of students and staff is first and foremost.
“As a result, we are working with the Greater Sudbury Police Service to determine what steps may be taken to eliminate these incidents in the future.
