Health Sciences North is keeping a lid on things for the time being with respect to reports of at least 30 management positions being cut.

Reports surfaced last week that another group of management positions were being axed at the hospital.

When contacted on March 29, HSN corporate communications manager Ginette Vezina said that the hospital will not be commenting on the matter right now.

Sudbury.com has received messages from members of the community who say they were either part of recent layoffs at the hospital or know someone who was.

No names of those laid off have been provided, but according to a news tip, both the northern outreach manager and the IT/Support manager were among the layoffs.

A follow-up request for comment was made to Health Sciences North on April 2, and Vezina said that no comment will be made until after a board meeting that has been scheduled for mid-April. This is not a regularly-scheduled HSN board meeting.

"Right now we're planning for a board meeting mid-April and that's when we'll be in a better position to provide details of decisions," said Vezina. "They'll be approved decisions at that point ... I think that's how I have to leave that."
