HOT off the presses: Firefighter calendar on sale now

Proceeds from calendar sales will support Northern Ontario Families of Children with Cancer

There are still more than 100 days left until the year 2019, but the Sudbury Professional Firefighters 2019 calendar is on sale right now.

The calendar was officially launched on Sept. 13 at party held at Lot 88 with the Sudbury firefighters who adorn the pages of next year's calendar in attendance to meet with those who couldn't wait to get their hands on a copy.

The 2019 calendar will be sold in support of Northern Ontario Families of Children with Cancer (NOFCC), with up to $20,000 going to the organization.

"To be associated with the Sudbury firefighters is a huge honour, I know a number of firefighters have been affected by childhood cancer and this is a cause that's close to their hearts," said Dayna Caruso, executive director, NOFCC.

"We're thrilled to be part of this, it's the hottest campaign in the city and it's a huge plus for us."

Last year's campaign raised $25,000 for NEO Kids and the Sudbury Professional Firefighters Association (SPFFA) is hoping to not only match, but excede that total this year.

"We're aiming to beat our number from last year, we've printed 2,000 calendars so at $20 each that's $40,000," said Jayson Swain, benevolent fund trustee with the SPFFA. "The first $20,000 will go to NOFCC and any extra money on top of that will be divided among other local charities."
