Updated: House fire on Melvin Avenue out, road open to one lane

No cause determined yet, but fire started in basement walkout area of building

The fire at a home on Melvin Avenue is out, said Greater Sudbury Fire Services.

Crews are performing overhaul operations, said Deputy Chief Jesse Oshell.

Melvin Avenue is open to traffic in one lane.

Melvin Avenue at Kathleen Street is closed as Greater Sudbury Fire Services are on scene of a residential fire that sent four people to Health Sciences North, Deputy Chief Jesse Oshell has told Sudbury.com.

Oshell said firefighters were called to the Melvin Street home at 1:50 p.m. after the fire started in the basement walkout area of the building. A cause has yet to be determined.

The four residents suffered minor burns and smoke inhalation, said Oshell. There is significant fire damage to the area of the home where the fire started, and there is significant smoke damage throughout the entire building.
