“Let’s keep it up,” says HSN CEO Dominc Giroux in a tweet, referring to the level of testing for COVID-19 in Greater Sudbury.

Sudbury is above the bar when it comes to testing for COVID-19 in comparison to the rest of Ontario and the country, said the CEO of Health Sciences North.

Dominic Giroux tweeted May 24 that Sudubry and Districts had 10,200 tests conducted for 207,004 residents, or 4,927/100,000 residents.

In comparison, across the province, as of the date of Giroux’s tweet on May 24 , 611,369 tests were conducted for 14,830,914 residents or 4,122 tests per 100,000 residents. Canada-wide, 1,459,212 tests have been conducted for 37,894,799 residents, or 3,851 tests per 100,000 residents.

“Let’s keep it up,” Giroux said in his tweet.

HSN has the capacity to test hundreds more people for COVID-19. As such, patients with any symptoms must call HSN’s COVID-19 Assessment Center between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m., seven days/week at 705-671-7373.

No one who is symptomatic or who is concerned they have been exposed to COVID-19 will be declined a test at the assessment centre.

Effective immediately, testing is also available for people who are concerned that they have been exposed to COVID-19. This includes people who are contacts of or may have been exposed to a confirmed or suspected case. Testing is also available for people who are at risk of exposure to COVID-19 through their employment, including essential workers (e.g., health-care workers, grocery store employees, food processing plants).

Patients will be screened by a nurse over the telephone, and referred to one of three options if testing is necessary:

-COVID-19 Assessment Centre, 56 Walford Rd., with drive-through testing option;

-NEOMO Medical, 885 Prete St., with drive-thru testing option;

-Primacy Medical Centre, 1485 Lasalle Blvd., with drive-thru testing option

All three COVID-19 assessment options are by appointment only. They are designed to protect health workers and patients alike from being exposed to the virus. For safety reasons, “walk in” appointments are strictly prohibited.
