“We are extremely pleased to have secured such a high-calibre candidate for the position of executive director,” said Jim Corless, the foundation's chair, in a press release.

“The foundation board felt that it was imperative to hire the strongest candidate for the foundation, our hospital and our community.”

Hussak comes to the foundation with more than 17 years of fundraising, community development, volunteer management and program delivery experience in not-for-profit and health-care environments, most recently as the executive director of Warmhearts Palliative Caregivers Sudbury/Manitoulin.

She has been immersed in our community throughout her career working at the Multiple Sclerosis Society as fundraising co-ordinator, Extendicare York as the manager of resident programs and volunteer services, and the regional manager of community engagement with The Arthritis Society, Ontario Division.

Volunteer work has included co-chairing the operations committee, along with the marketing and media committee of the 2010 Ontario Summer Games.

She has also been the district registrar for the Sudbury Regional Soccer Association. She was recently the recipient of the 2011 International Women’s Week, Community Activism Award.

“It was important for us to find a leader that would see the vast opportunities for development of the foundation,” Corless said. “With her philanthropic, volunteer and community experience, Mary Lou has the right leadership skills and abilities to continue the HSN Foundation as a fundraising arm of Health Sciences North.”
