Health Sciences North is adding another senior manager to its team.
The boards of directors of the Health Sciences North (HSN) Foundation, the HSN Volunteer Association, the NEO Kids Foundation and the Northern Cancer Foundation have decided to share the services of a single president and CEO.
Once the new shared CEO begins in his or her role, the current leaders of the three foundations, Mary-Lou Hussak, Tannys Laughren and Patricia Mills, as well as the manager of HSN’s Volunteer Services, Françoise Roussel, and staff from the HSN Volunteer Association, will all report to the new shared CEO.
No staff member will lose employment as a result of this change.
“We all work toward enhancing patient care, teaching and research at HSN,” said Shayne Smith, chair of the Northern Cancer Foundation, in a press release.
“We want to increase collaboration between our four organizations, while continuing to leverage what’s best from our current structure – four engaged boards and strong brands, outstanding staff, committed volunteers and generous donors.”
The new shared CEO will serve on the executive team of HSN.
“The direct involvement of our CEO on HSN’s senior executive team will enable all foundations to do a better job of stewarding our donors as we will be more closely linked to developments at the hospital and at the research institute,” said Dan Gray, chair of the HSN Foundation.
“Ontario’s population will grow by 1.8 million people in the next decade alone, and 100 per cent of that growth will occur outside Northeastern Ontario. This will put a lot of pressure on the provincial government to invest in health care outside Northeastern Ontario,” said Adam Haight, chair of the HSN Volunteer Association.
“Philanthropic support will be more critical than ever to ensure quality health care, teaching and research in our region.”
“HSN and HSNRI are about to launch a new ambitious 2019-2024 strategic plan,” said
Mick Weaver, chair of the NEO Kids Foundation.
“Our foundations and the Volunteer Association have been actively involved in its development. As a region, we now need to come together to support its successful implementation.”
A national search for the first appointee as shared CEO will be initiated in the new year. A candidate is expected to be appointed in May.
