Health Sciences North vascular access and independent dialysis nurse Adrienne Barrett was honoured by Cancer Care Ontario and the Ontario Renal Network with a Human Touch Award for her contributions to improving patient care in the North.

"It was a humbling experience to attend the award ceremony and be placed in the same category as the other recipients as they are all extraordinary at what they do," said Barrett. "I am honoured to be given this award."

The Human Touch Awards are celebrated annually to showcase teams and individuals in Ontario's cancer and renal systems who make major contributions to the improvement of health care in Ontario. The awards recognize exemplary compassionate patient care.

Nominees include health-care professionals, providers and volunteers working in the cancer and kidney care systems in Ontario.

Adrienne Barrett has worked at HSN for a number of years and continues to work to ensure patients have a positive experience and are well informed to make decisions.

"Adrienne provides exemplary compassionate, person-centred care to all patients from their initial dialysis access consultation and onwards throughout their journey", said Russell Landry, supervisor, in-centre dialysis.

The awards highlight some of the best work happening across the province and the winners show the power of compassion and the human touch by making meaningful differences for patients and their families.
