Health Sciences North wants to help with your weight loss goals with the new Optifast Medical Weight Management Program.

The Sudbury Regional Bariatric Assessment and Treatment Centre is currently accepting referrals to a 26-week, medically supervised program that utilizes medical, nutrition and behavioural elements to achieve lasting weight-loss results.

“The Optifast Medical Weight Management Program is a comprehensive, behaviour-based, program with proven results,” said Kerri Loney, Interim Coordinator for Sudbury Regional Bariatric Assessment and Treatment Centre.

“The program initially provides patients with high-quality, calorie-controlled, meal replacement and progresses with a five-week transition to regular food.”

In addition to the Optifast meal replacement, patients also participate in weekly education sessions and medical monitoring at the Sudbury Outpatient Centre.
Expert staff will help patients with lifestyle education and provide the necessary resources to remain committed to their health and well-being.

The Optifast Medical Weight Management Program is recommended for patients with a BMI over 30, hypertensive and diabetic patients, those who may struggle with mobility, or have shortness of breath due to weight.

This program also suits patients who have tried other programs but may need more support through the weight-loss process.

The only cost of participating in the program is the meal replacement supplement used, which is not covered by OHIP, ODSP, FNIHB, or by most private insurance plans.

Patients interested in accessing the program should visit their primary care provider today.

A physician referral to www.ontariobariatricnetwork.ca is required.
