Sudbury Hydro crews are en route to Capreol to investigate a power outage.

Update 7 p.m.:

"We are having more trouble in Capreol," Greater Sudbury Utlities said in an email Monday evening. "Twenty minutes after restoration, power went out again.

"We do not know if this is coincidence or related to the damaged line from earlier."

Crews are still working on the problem, the email said, but currently, there's no estimate for when power will be restored.

Update 5:46 p.m.:

Power has been restored to all customers in Capreol affected by Monday's afternoon's outage, the Greater Sudbury Hydro said in a release Monday evening.
"Cause: a crane hit a privately owned pole, causing damage to GSH lines," the email said.

Update 5:00 p.m.:

The damaged pole is privately owned, the GSU said Monday evening.

"We are going to disconnect our lines and restore power to our 700-ish affected customers, hopefully within 90 minutes," the GSU said in a tweet.

Sudbury Hydro advised customers to shut off ranges, ovens, curling irons, computers and sensitive electronics before the power comes back on to avoid damage and fire.

"Also, if using BBQ--gas or charcoal--to make dinner, do it OUTSIDE. Toxic off-gasses can kill you!" said GSU in a tweet.

Update 4:01 p.m.:

A crane has damaged a power pole on Front Street in Capreol, the GSU said Monday.

"Crews are on the way to assess the extent of the damage," the utility said in an email.

"Until we know exactly what needs to be done, we cannot give an estimated time of restoration."

It appears that the southern 1/3 of the community is not affected by the outage, but about 700 customers in the central and northern areas are dark.
