Updated: Power mostly restored to local Hydro One customers

As of late evening Monday, power has mostly been restored to local Hydro One customers, according to the utility's outage map. About 170 customers in the northern part of the city were still without power as of 9:45 p.m.

Power has been restored to many area Hydro One customers after Sunday evening's thunderstorms, but there are still thousands affected by outages, according to the utility's outage map.

The largest outages are in the northern end of Greater Sudbury, including the Onaping area. There are also affected customers in the Worthington and Nairn Centre area, as well as scattered smaller outages elsewhere in the Sudbury region.

Thousands of area Hydro One customers are still without power after thunderstorms earlier this evening, according to the utility's outage map.

Affected areas include the northern end of the city (such as the Chelmsford, Dowling and Onaping areas) as well the Highway 17 corridor from Walden all the way to the Elliot Lake turnoff, as well as Espanola, Manitoulin Island and Killarney.

According to the outage map, power should be restored in the northern end of Greater Sudbury within the next hour, while Hydro One is now "reassessing" when power will be restored along the Highway 17 corridor, and to Espanola, Manitoulin Island and Killarney.

Hydro One is reporting several large power outages in the area affecting thousands of customers.

The utility's outage map shows that an outage affecting nearly 8,000 customers extends all the way from the Walden to the Valley areas. There is also a power outage affecting nearly 500 people in the northern end of the city, as well as smaller outages scattered throughout the city. The estimated time of restoration is currently 8:45 p.m.

So far Greater Sudbury Utilities has not reported any power outages.
