It's “time to close a chapter and begin a new one,” says the owner of Solid Gold VIP Lounge, which is closing Jan. 22.

“I just want to do something different, there's nothing more to it,” said Dean Scopazzi, who said he's been in the business for 40 years. “I don't know what else to tell you.”

He just laughs when asked whether or not business has been good. “Why have you guys got to be all doom and gloom?” Scopazzi said.

The adult entertainment venue (a.k.a. a strip club) — which infamously is located off of Falconbridge Road, next door to local English Catholic high school St. Charles College — has been a Sudbury institution for the past 27 years.

Solid Gold VIP Lounge announced that this is the bar's last week yesterday on its Facebook page

When Sudbury.com shared the news, the story garnered more than 700 shares and more than 100 comments. Some who commented evinced a moral objection to the type of entertainment offered at the Solid Gold and were happy to see it go, while others took a more light-hearted approach to the news.

Even Diamonds, the only other Sudbury bar specializing in adult entertainment, used Sudbury.com's comment section to bid farewell to Solid Gold. "We are truly sad to see our sister go," Diamonds wrote.

Scopazzi said the family-owned bar employs about 15 or 16 people, and he hopes they'll be able to find other employment.

He said he wants to “thank the loyal patrons and the city of Sudbury.”
