“Wouldn’t it be cool if we could do that in our neighbourhood?”

What would be a fun project to do with your neighbours in your part of Greater Sudbury? A shared garden? Tree planting? Public art? A climate change event? What would you like to see?

Got an idea for a project in your neighbourhood? Talk to your friends and neighbours, community action network, playground association, school or community groups.

Then apply to Project Impact, which supports small community projects that make a big difference.

Project Impact began in 2014. Ideas are pitched, the community votes in libraries and online for their favourite projects, funds (up to $500 each) are distributed and great projects appear.

If you’ve spotted bee houses in the town of Capreol, seen photos of the bountiful harvest shared among seniors in Coniston, noticed paintings on streets in Downtown Sudbury showing the path of the buried Junction Creek, or used painted rain barrels at community gardens, then you’ve seen the results of past year’s projects.

“We are excited to see what ideas people come up with for their neighbourhoods and happy that Project Impact can help make it happen,” said Lilly Noble, a co-chair of Coalition for a Liveable Sudbury, which is leading Project Impact.

“I’m glad to be a part of making Project Impact a great community project again this year,” said Sharon Roy, a volunteer on the Project Impact team.

Can’t think of what to do? Get some ideas at Project Impact Sudbury’s Facebook group and at projectimpact.ca. Fill out an application and see if your project gets enough votes to be funded.

How do you apply? Applications can be found at projectimpact.ca. Contact the group at [email protected] or 705-691-5538, if you have any questions.

The application deadline is Jan. 31, 2020, so there is still time to apply.

Are you interested in supporting this initiative? Project Impact is funded through community donations. You can help by donating online at projectimpact.ca.
