Laurentian University has revealed the names of five new members of its board of governors.
This in the wake of the resignation of 11 members of Laurentian’s board last week, including chair Claude Lacroix. The resignations were in connection with a financial support package from the province.
Laurentian, which continues to undergo court-supervised insolvency restructuring, said last week that the province was appointing five individuals to fill the Lieutenant Governor in Council (LGIC) nominee spots on LU’s board of governors.
The term "Lieutenant Governor in Council" refers to the “Lieutenant Governor acting on and with the advice of the Executive Council or Cabinet.”
These volunteer members are appointed by the Lieutenant Governor in Council (LGIC) and will hold office for a one-year term, pursuant to the terms of their LGIC appointments.
“As part of Laurentian University's commitment to an accelerated process of Board renewal and in connection with the financial support package provided by the Province of Ontario, it is pleased to welcome five incoming members to its Board of Governors,” said a press release from Laurentian.
Last week, in the wake of the resignations of board members, the board of governors meeting that was supposed to be held on Friday was abruptly cancelled.

The new appointees to Laurentian’s board of governors are as follows:
Debbi Nicholson, President and CEO, Greater Sudbury Chamber of Commerce
Born in Sudbury, Debbi Nicholson is one of the longest-serving chamber executives in Canada today.
Don Duval, President and CEO, NORCAT
Don Duval oversees the not-for-profit NORCAT, which is dedicated to building and delivering programs that enhance skilled labour training and development. He is also a member of the Health Sciences North Board of Governors.
Robert Brouillette, Owner, City Welding
Robert Brouillette is an experienced lawyer, business owner and Laurentian alumnus.
Gerard (Gerry) Bilodeau, President, GBMC Inc.
Gerry Bilodeau brings more than 40 years of experience in the mining sector, focussed on strategic planning, project and operations management, and organizational development.
Jeff Bangs, Partner, Pathway Group
From Mattawa, Jeff Bangs is a strategic consultant with more than two decades of experience in public sector decision-making, stakeholder relations, and organizational change. Until his appointment to the board by the province, Bangs served as an advisor to Laurentian.
