It's November, Sudbury -- here's how to gear up for this winter's ski season

The mercury is definitely dipping downward in Sudbury and for those who love skiing, the promise of snow comes with that drop. If you look forward to skiing, this weekend is an important one as membership prices go up on at larger clubs and resorts on Monday. 

We collected information about ski swaps and membership sales to help get your winter started.

Local hills and trails

Adanac Ski Hill

Adanac Ski Hill hosts the Canadian Ski Patrol Ski and Snowboard Sale this weekend, where proceeds from purchases help support the Canadian Ski Patrol's training program and volunteer first aid services in Sudbury. Details below.

Canadian Ski Patrol ski and snowboard sale 

Friday Nov. 2 - noon to 9 p.m. 
Sat. Nov. 3 - 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. 
Sun Nov. 4 - 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Walden Cross Country Fitness Club

Cross country ski swap and open house: Saturday, Nov. 10, . 9 a.m. - 3 p.m.

Annual event introducing skiers to the club, trails and facilities. Hot drinks and snacks will be available.  Staff and Program Coordinators will be onsite to answer all your questions regarding membership and registrations, which can be completed that day. 

Gently used cross country ski equipment and clothing will be available for purchase and to sell, and skis may be dropped off for a pre-season wax ($20). Walden Cross Country Fitness Club invites Sudburians to "find some new-to-you gear!"

Capreol Cross Country Ski Club

Trail pass is $5 and rentals are available for $10. Cash only. Adult Season pass is $60, Student is $50 and Child season pass is $35.

Adanac Ski Hill and Lively Ski Hill

Early bird discounts will end Sunday, December 18. Save anywhere from $75 on a junior membership to $280 on a family of 5 membership by purchasing before that date.

BioSki Cross Country Ski and Snowshoe Club

Located at the end of South Bay Road, the club has a reciprocal agreement with the Laurentian Nordic Ski Club whereby membership in one club allows you free access to trails at the other. Club events include monthly potluck socials and free skiing and snowshoeing on Family Day. Free ski pointers will be available in the new year. Registration for the upcoming season is available through www.zone4.ca (search 'BioSki'). 

Laurentian Nordic Ski Club

The Laurentian Nordic Ski Club (LNSC) is a not-for-profit, incorporated community club composed of 300+ members operating out of the Laurentian University trails, which are developed and maintained on a voluntary, year-round basis. When the season begins, day passes and rentals are available daily from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. (hours may vary).

Adult Day Pass $12, Child Day Pass $6. Adult Rentals $12, Child Rentals $6. Two Adult Family is $44, One Adult Family is $33. Chariot 2-hour rental $10
The club also has snowshoe rentals available. Costs are: adults $10/day, children $5/day and family $20/day.

Boogie Mountain

Those who register early can save $60 on all memberships. A ski swap and sale happens November 17, the last date to register early. Boogie Mountain offers full Chalet services with canteen, rental shop, debit machine and merchandise.

Onaping Falls Nordics Ski Club

Club membership registration is now open for skiing, snowshoeing and to register for the Youth Program. A family membership for both skiing and snowshoeing is now available. 

Skiing membership includes snowshoeing. Those who register by Dec. 20 will have their name go in a draw for an $85.00 gift card that can be used towards a membership, day passes, and/or rentals.

For weekend travellers

Mount St. Louis Moonstone

Significant building, maintenance and facility investment occurred over the summer at Mount St. Louis Moonstone. Improvements on the hills and within facilities were made to the tune of $1.5M, according to a press release. Energy efficient insulation at the Summit 6 Express lift terminals, installation of new ductile snowmaking pipe on three slopes, and high-powered snow guns are just a few of the projects that were completed over the summer. The Venture slope was also raised a total of 50 vertical feet. 

The Podium Pass Sale ends Nov 4. With sale pricing, a BRONZE Night Pass (valid Wednesday to Sunday 3:30 p.m. - 9 p.m.) will cost $195+ taxes, and GOLD adult memberships are $675+ taxes (going up to $810 after Nov. 4), youth and senior memberships are $565+ taxes (going up to $665 after Nov. 4), Tiny Tyke memberships (ages 5 and under) are $45+ taxes (going up to $60 after Nov. 4). 

The annual ski swap, open house and membership sale happens at Mount St. Louis Moonstone this Saturday and Sunday (Nov. 3 and 4).

Tritown Ski and Snowboard Village

The early bird special ends Dec. 1. Anyone who purchases a ski/snowboard membership before that date will receive a free tubing membership. 

Ground was broken for the building of a new chalet six weeks ago.
