Sudbury Symphony Orchestra and guest conductor Josh Woods invite you take a trip to Vienna for an evening of specially curated waltz music on March 25.
Tickets are on sale now for Waltz This Way at the Radisson Hotel ballroom downtown. Curtain is at 7:30 p.m.
“The waltz is a vehicle of grace and poise, even when it represents the macabre,” Sudbury Symphony said in a news release. “For this concert, the maestro has chosen pieces that span the life of the waltz from Sibelius to Dvorak and from Handel to Johann Strauss Jr.”
The concert will end with the most famous waltz of all – On the Beautiful Blue Danube.
“The Radisson Ballroom is large enough that, at this point, if the audience can’t stay still for this iconic melody, there may just be some waltzing in the aisles,” SSO said.
As a very special treat, the Maestro will be surrendering his baton to one lucky bidder at the silent auction to conduct the famous Radesky March.
“This march is the ‘party piece’ of Strauss Senior, the father of the waltz king. It is a fine contrast of time and style.”
Woods said he is pleased to be returning to Sudbury and to the SSO.
“I had a great experience with the orchestra in November — the orchestra sounded great, the staff and volunteers did a wonderful job putting everything together, and the audience response was terrific,” Woods said in a news release. “The SSO is a key part of the cultural landscape of Greater Sudbury, and it's a lot of fun to work with them."
Tickets range from $25 to $45 and are available online here or at the door.
