The 50th International Knights and Ladies of Kaleva Grand Lodge Convention was held last month in Sudbury. More than 150 people of Finnish heritage attended the event at Laurentian University. The chairs of the Knights and Ladies of Kaleva Lodges at the time were both Sudburians. Oiva Saarinen served as Grand First Brother and Edey Saarinen served as Grand Matron.

This was the second time the convention was held in Sudbury. The first time was in 1970 during the famous Sudbury tornado.

The Sudbury organization has raised more than $125,000 in scholarships for Finnish-Canadian students since 1965.
