Sudbury Regional Hospital CEO Vickie Kaminski is up to the task of leading the health authority at the centre of a breast-cancer testing scandal in Newfoundland and Labrador, according to the chair of the board of trustees at that authority.
Kaminski announced her resignation from Sudbury Regional Hospital this week. She will begin her tenure as CEO of Eastern Health in June.
"She has demonstrated leadership. I think it equips her to deal with the challenges," said Joan Dawe in a Globe and Mail article.
The article points to Kaminski dealing with a baby-kidnapping and an electrical fire in the past few years, as well as dealing with "a new single-site facility, a project she inherited, (which) went far over budget and is still not built."
A report based on an inquiry into botched breast cancer tests at Eastern Health was released March 3. It identified failures "of both accountability and oversight at all levels."
Dawe said in the Globe and Mail that Kaminski's appointment had nothing to do with the release of the inquiry report. Kaminski's predecessor had the job on an interim basis for the past two years, and will continue in a senior management position.
